Fridge Hacks

Fridge Hacks

May 04, 2019

In the age of Marie Kondo-ing our closets and homes, it is quite tempting to do the same with our kitchens, especially our refridgerators.. How many of you have found super expired items all the way on the back shelf since who knows when? Everyone remembers to re-arrange their fridge once in a while, but on a daily basis, we kinda look at this very essential item in our lives as a bit of an afterthought.. so we thought that in the season of spring cleaning our closets and homes, lets tackle those Dawlence fridges as well, as keep them working as reliably as we can. Here are some hacks to keep your fridges and food organized..

Hack number 1:

Keep things in place with baskets and bins. They slide out easily, they avoid produce from touching each other and they are easy to clean. If you want to get really particular, you can even colour code the baskets, with red for stuff that’ll expire sooner so use earlier, blue or green for more long lasting, and so on.  Another option is to label the baskets (deli meats, condiments, vegetables, etc) so that you don’t have to up-end the whole fridge each time you’re looking for something!

Hack number 2:

Line your shelves with easy-to-clean mats. We personally hate spills and drips in our fridge..  with this method, not only do you avoid the spills and drips, cleaning becomes a lot easier as you just have to remove, wash or wipe down the mats and voila, all clean again! If you want to be super lazy about it, you can even line with cling-film… this way, if there is a spill, you can just remove the cling film, toss it and replace it with another one. Can’t get easier than that!

Hack number 3:

Mason jars are great for storing cut fruit and salad, and keeping them fresh. Infact, we say go one step further – upcycle your masala glass bottles, wash them out thoroughly and use them to store your cut fruit or vegetables, or even to make mason jar salads in or overnight oatmeal. Cheaper, and environmentally friendly – we call that a win-win!

Hack 4:

We applaud this super smart mom who came up with this hack for cleaning the fridge – she set the task to her kids, and whoever found the most expired items or produce would get a popsicle. Kept the kids busy, AND got the fridge cleaned – genius!

Hack 5:

Take a photo of your fridge before you go grocery shopping… it’ll remind you of what all you already have, and the thought of cluttering it up might prevent you from impulse purchases and not quite needed buys!

Hack 6

Keep a jar of activated carbon in the corner of your frigde to neutralize any odours.. after all, nobody wants a smelly fridge!
